Hi,

I attended James Vernor Elementary School in Northwest Detroit. I love Vernor's and drink it every day. Before Christmas break (yes, that's what they used to call it), people from the Vernor's factory would come to the school with a huge steel barrel full of ice cold ginger ale. All the kids would line up in the main hallway of the school and we would get a candy cane and a paper cup of Vernor's. It was an awesome thing and I remember this with great fondness.

I have fond memories of Vernor's as well. Growing up in northern Michigan, Vernor's was the only soda pop that us kids got and only when we were sick. Kinda made a kid want to be sick once in awhile! ;) I didn’t really know anything different until I was old enough to plug nickels into a pop machine. I am now on the west coast (for now) and am glad to find it locally. When the labelling was changed in the early 90s, I called and claimed "sacrilege!" It's changed again a couple of times (or so) since. I have an old can in my garage just for memories and the smile it can raise. Sentimental ol' biker sap, maybe. :) [BC]

No where in your book do I see a reference to the Vernor's carousel. My parents, friend, Al Fick, use to work for them & he brought it to our neighborhood, in Inkster,60's. We were the hit of the neighborhood & he always made sure we had plenty of balloons to pass out for us & our friends.
